Spring time is pepper season and we are super excited to harvest our peppers and make some low carb chili sauce.

Even if you are not lucky enough to have peppers in your backyard, most grocery stores and markets will have chili peppers. They are pretty common and are easy to find in the pepper section of the grocery store.

This is the BEST Low Carb sweet chili sauce recipe! And it’s SO easy to make! You only need a few things to make your own Sweet Chili Sauce!

The great thing about making your own sugar free sweet chili sauce at home, is that there are no preservatives like the ones in the store.

You can really control the sugar content in the sweet chili sauce. In this recipe, I swerve and stevia because I love the sweetness without using sugar. You could leave out the sweetener if you wanted and just make it chili sauce.

  • Fresh Ginger
  • Garlic
  • Xanthan Gum
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Coconut Aminos (alternative to soy sauce)
  • Water
  • Non-Sugar Sweetener

You can also feel free to use fish sauce in the recipe as well. A little goes a long way so only add 1 teaspoon.

Tools & Supplies

  • Serrated Knives
  • Microplane
  • Spoon
  • Glass Measuring Cup

Peel Ginger

Peel Ginger with a spoon. This is the easiest way I have found. Then, grate the ginger using a microplane.

Crush Garlic & Grate

Take the garlic and use the back of the knife to crush the garlic and peel the paper off. Then, using the microplane grate the garlic.

Slicing Peppers Tips

Using a serrated knife, cut the top off of the pepper. Slice one side of the pepper open.

Then, remove the seeds. Make sure not to touch your face or eyes while doing this. It really burns.

Next, lay out the pepper so that it is laying flay on the cutting board. Slice the pepper into thin strips.

Then, bundle the pepper slices together and dice the peppers into tiny bits. They should be fleck sized bits of chili peppers.

Sugar Alternatives

  • Sugar Alcohols
  • Stevia

How to Can Keto Sweet Chili Sauce?

You are able to can or jar your sugar free chili sauce! Typically your fresh low carb chili sauce will last a while in the fridge if you make sure to boil the canning jars first!

You can boil the glass jar in a large stock pot.

Simply store safety and freeze and then let thaw in your fridge when you are ready to eat. Once defrosted you should eat within a few days.

Basic Equipment

  • A lid caddy (pictured)
  • magnetic lid wand
  • A canning rack with handles
  • A stovetop or electric kettle

How to Can Chili Sauce?

Place a canning jar rack in the bottom of a tall pot, like a stock pot.

The canning jar rack keeps the bottoms of the jars elevated off the bottom of the pot so that the jars don’t bang together possibly causing them to break. th

Add enough water to cover the jars.

Turn on the heat.

Place the round canning lids on the jars. You can use the magnetic lid wand to make it easier.

Process the Filled Jars

It is time to load up the jars onto the rack and lower it into the water bath.

There should be at least 1 inch of water above the top of the jars. You can use a tea kettle or tea pot filled with hot water to accomplish this.

In order to protect the jars from breaking, there should be at least 1/2 inch of space between the jars.

Turn up the heat, and bring the water to a full rolling boil. Put the lid on the pot.

Set the timer for 10 minutes once the water is at a full boil.

Let the Jars Cool Down

When the 10 minutes is up, turn off the heat. Let the jars cool in the pot for about 5 minutes.

Remove the jars using the jar lifting tong or the jar rack with handles.

Lift the jars vertically, being careful not to tilt them, as this cain cause the food inside to interfere with the seal of the lid.

Transfer the jars to a cooling rack. Don’t set the hot jars on the counter. You don’t want to cause tempature shock. Turn the heat on in the house if it is cold and shut the AC off if it is hot out.

Let the jars cool for 12 to 14 hours.

You will hear sounds as the lids settle. Leave them be.

Store the Jars

After 12 hours, test whether the jars have sealed correctly by pressing down on the lids.

If sealed, they won’t wiggle and will feel solid when you press on them. Then, remove the rings and test the seal again by gently lifting the jars from the edge of the rim.

You should be able to lift the jar from the tension of the lid alone.

If any lids fail, refrigerate the contents and consume promptly.

Wash and wipe down your jars with a moist cloth to remove residue.

Store the canning jars in a cool, dark place for up to one year.

Is sweet chili sauce Keto?

Sweet chili sauce sold at the store is normally not Keto Friendly becuase it filled with sugar.

There might be a brand that makes it without sugar in stores, but I have not seen it yet. Until brands start making it, you can make your own with this simple recipe.

grated ginger

Lower the heat and allow to simmer for another 2 minutes.

Chili Pepper mixture

While the spicy sweet chili is simmering dissolve xanthan gum into hot water. I heated up the water in this glass measuring cup in the microwave for 1 minute.

Do your best to dissolve the xanthan gum into hot water.

Then, add water xanthan gum mixture into the pan with chilli sauce.

Dissolve the xanthan gum as much as possible into the mixture.

Take the chili sauce off the heat and allow to cool before canning.
