These Grilled Green Onions are a tasty side dish choice to pair with a great steak dinner or grilled chicken. You can spruce up your plate with these yummy low carb onions.
As grilling season starts, I love getting outside and grilling everything that I have on hand. I had a bundle of green onions that hadn’t been used and I decided to try to grill them. If you can grill regular onions, why can’t you grill green onions.

How to Grill Onions?
Start by rinsing the green onions under cool tap water. Remove any wilted or damaged tops or slimy skins on the white parts of the onions.
If you want to keep the roots on the green onions, just be sure to clean them thoroughly since those are in the dirt.
You can use the roots and some of the bulb to grow your own onions in your kitchen. See notes below on how to grow them.
Heat your grill to medium heat about 350 degrees F.
Dry the onions.
Then, brush the onions with oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Sprinkle the grilled spring onions with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
Add the onions to grill and close the grill for about 7 minutes.
Then, flip the onions and cook for another 7 minutes with the grill closed.
You can grate parmesan on top for garnish.
How to Grow Green Onions?
You can also cut off the bottom of the bulb with the roots and grow some of your own onions in your house. Stand the bulbs root-end down in a small jar. Just add enough water to cover the roots, but leave the top edges above water.
Set on a windowsill and keep the roots moist. After a few days, green shoots will emerge from the tops of the bulbs. After that, they’ll grow very quickly. Keep the roots submerged and change water at least once a week.

Grilling Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs really well with BBQ and grilling. It is a 2018 Middle Jane Red Wine.
It has a bright purple in color with alluring notes of blueberry, black cherry and red plum along with violet, spice and hint of caramelized sugar for a layered frame with rich-yet-approachable tannins and a vibrant, lingering finish.
The alcohol content is only 14.5% with low residual sugar of .05 g/L.
