Keto Pulled Pork

You can make this amazing keto dinner in the slow cooker or in the instant pot. The slow cooker takes a lot more time than the pressure cooker.

Lately, I have been using the Instant Pot as a slow cooker rather than my Crockpot. I have spelled out how to make this pulled pork recipe using whichever device you have.

For even tastier results, allow pork to sit in its yummy juices once you’ve pulled it apart. This will allow it to absorb even more of that great flavor!

Let’s start with a few basic tips:

Alternative Ingredients

Pork Shoulder Alternatives

For this recipe, don’t substitute a leaner cut of pork. The pork shoulder is the ideal Keto choice because it will release lots of juices and fat making the meat will be extra tender and flavorful.

Bone Broth Alternatives

For this recipe, we chose to use chicken bone broth because it is packed with tons of awesome nutrients that are perfect for the keto diet.

You can also swap in chicken broth, chicken stock or even beef broth and beef stock or beef bone broth. It is really up to you.

Also, if you don’t have any of these, you could always use water and throw in a little fat like butter or oil.

Spice Alternatives

For this recipe we chose to put together a spice group together that brings out the flavor the pork.

You can also choose to make the pork with Mexican spices like coriander, cumin, garlic powder, dried oregano, bay leaf, chili pepper, and onion powder.

With these Mexican spices, this dish becomes Keto carnitas. You can serve them with these low carb tortillas that I found. They are delicious and the perfect choice for a Keto Mexican Pulled Pork tacos.

Tacos Carnitas

There are so many awesome rubs for pork! I found this site called The Spice House where you can get specialty rubs for pork. Here are some awesome rubs to choose from.

The Pullman Smokehouse Pork Rub sounds amazing! The dining room of Chicago’s fabled Hotel Florence inspired this classic pork rub.

In the heydey of the railways, it was a splurge to finish work at the Pullman factory and feast on a double-cut chop at the majestic hotel across the street.

The Spice House’s smoky, peppery Pullman Smokehouse Pork Rub will dress up any pork dish.

Start by combing all spices (garlic powder, onion powder, rosemary, paprika, cayenne pepper, ground fennel) and the cocoa in a small bowl.

Then, add salt and black pepper, to taste.

Next, rub the spice mix all over the pork shoulder.

Transfer to a 5 or 6-quart slow cooker crock.

Add the chicken broth to the crock and cook on high for 4 hours or on low for 6.

Once the cooking time is complete, use two forks to pull the pork apart while it is still in the slow cooker crock.

Allow the pulled pork to remain in the juices with the slow cooker set to “warm” for 20-30 minutes to absorb more flavor.

Keto Side Dishes

Here are some side dishes that would go great with this low carb dinner:

Wine Pairing with Pork

You can pair pork dishes likes this low carb pork dinner with this Pinor Noir.

This Conde de la Terra Pinot Noir is elegant and lithe with aromas of cranberry, pomegranate, forest floor and flavors of tart cherry and spice on a medium-body frame with soft tannins and a lingering finish.

It pairs perfectly with pork dishes. For a Vegan option, pair with vegan mushroom tetrazzini.

Conte de la Terre is a love letter to the masters of old-world winemaking. The grapes are from 20-year-old vines spanning across five different family vineyards in the Willamette Valley, Oregon.

The grapes were grown in both Jory (basalt-based volcanic soil, high in iron and nutrient-rich) and Marine Sedimentary soils. Learn more about the wine here.

I am normally a white wine enthusiast until I drank this Dove Hunt Dog Pinot Noir. It has low residual sugar making it ideal for those of us on the Keto Diet.

This brand of wine is Clean Crafted so that it is less likely to cause headaches. You can learn more about clean crafted wine here.
